Today's Catholic Teacher has recognized Holy Name of Jesus as one of its "Catholic Schools for Tomorrow" award winners for Innovations in Technology. The recognition is attributed to the school's use of BASCOM's curriculum-based management technology, fiber optic cable network, wireless Internet access, and technology-focused staff development programs. The school credits BASCOM for providing them with the ability to add Internet technology as yet another way to productively meet curricular goals-just as traditional resources and library references are utilized.
"Using BASCOM's Internet management solution, our students are able to search and find sites that will always have educational value and be good credible sources," said Holy Name of Jesus Technology Specialist, Anne Farrington. "It was the implementation of [BASCOM's] Internet Management system that helped us win this year's 'Innovations in Technology' award."
Teachers at Holy Name of Jesus School use BASCOM's Access Management Engine or AME to select Web sites and Internet services for lesson plans, lab activities, and library resources. The AME focuses student access on this content, as well as Web sites offered through BASCOM's Global Chalkboard - a regularly updated library of Web sites selected and reviewed by an Education Advisory Board.
Holy Name of Jesus school obtains access to the AME and Global Chalkboard through a connectivity appliance developed by BASCOM. While providing a single Internet gateway through which the school's 24 classrooms and two administrative centers access the Internet, this hardware / software appliance also includes a fully integrated and pre-configured firewall and proxy cache. These features enable BASCOM's solutions to serve enterprise needs, with integrated offerings such as automatic software upgrades, remote configuration back-ups, and simple, Web-based administration matching the staff resources and budgets available to most K-12 schools.
"BASCOM is the perfect solution for our school and in my opinion, for all schools," said Farrington. [It] has given me total peace of mind."
