Flexible Education Portal "Reinvents" the Web for Schools, Teachers and Students, Providing a User-Customizable Framework for Focused Online Learning
Hauppauge, NY - November 20, 2000—BASCOM Global Internet Services, Inc. (BASCOM), pioneering developers of "e-curriculum" solutions for K-12 schools, today announces the release of My Global Chalkboard?, a Web-based education portal offering unparalleled flexibility, choice and ease in helping even the least tech-savvy teacher realize the benefits of a focused, vibrant Internet-enriched curricula. Based on the Global Chalkboard?, BASCOM's popular "universal" education portal, My Global Chalkboard enables educators to add to and become part of a virtual community linking colleagues district or school-wide, providing a flexible framework for the exchange of critical learning resources. My Global Chalkboard includes sites pre-populated by a panel of BASCOM's in-house educators, which are updated on a regular basis. My Global Chalkboard functions much as an online school library where educators use their professional judgment in adding resources which are easily catalogued and accessed. Plus, teachers, students and parents now have a home-school connection-or "learning bridge" that extends education beyond the classroom-promoting anytime, anywhere instruction.
"The lack of content management and organizational tools available to educators have dramatically impeded even the most proactive teachers from using the Internet to add depth and excitement to classroom instruction. My Global Chalkboard essentially reinvents the Internet for each school, by offering an easy-to-use, flexible framework that enables each user to define and find the educational resources they need, wherever and whenever they need it," said BASCOM President Peter Cirasole. "Each learning environment and each educator-as well as each student-has distinct objectives and styles of instruction. My Global Chalkboard is the only online tool that we know of that was designed to address this, resulting in more effective instruction and more proactive learning."
My Global Chalkboard offers the following features:
- Custom School Page: When a school signs-up for its own version of My Global Chalkboard, it receives its own URL (for example, .globalchalkboard.com). It also receives its own custom portal using its logo, photos or banners. Schools can also customize categories (for example, a private school may include Religious Studies as a category.)
- Easy, Flexible Site Administration: Within an easy-to-use, menu-driven interface, schools may add or edit sites to My Global Chalkboard through an administration module that makes the process of reviewing and publishing approved Web sites simple, efficient and straight-forward. Educators can be empowered to identify, classify and review curriculum-focused Web sites, which a school-designated "publisher" adds to that school's My Global Chalkboard.
- Custom Views: Various sort options help educators quickly find grade-specific sites. These sites can also be sorted by a rating based on their educational value.
